WELCOME TO GROVE HOUSE LEVISHAM

Self Catering Moorland Holiday Cottages

Our very special location...

Grove House, Levisham sits nestled into the magical Newtondale in the heart of the North York Moors National Park.

The drive in to Grove House is a roller coaster trip across the moor at Levisham Bottom via the villages of Lockton and Levisham, occasionally manoeuvring around the sheep and the docile Highland cattle!

Some 12 miles long and in places 250 feet deep, Newtondale formed with the overflow of a glacial lake at the end of the last Ice Age.  The resultant canyon carves through the moorland plateau, leaving a spectacular landscape of open heather moorland, forested hillsides and lush meadows.

Adjacent to Grove House is Levisham Station on the historic North Yorkshire Moors Railway, adding the sights and the echoing sounds of steam to this rural valley.

Levisham Station is a crossing point for opposing trains and is a great place to view the locomotives paused at the station, blowing off steam.

A number of national cycle trails and walks literally pass the door. We are in the heart of the original Levisham Estate, managed by the National Park Authority, affording direct access to this spectacular moorland and woodland landscape.

Nearby Dalby Forest hosts a Saturday Parkrun, Go Ape, cycling trails and world class mountain biking courses.  When the sun sets here in the North York Moors another breathtaking view emerges - a sky full of stars.  Dalby's 'Dark Sky Discovery Site' is rated 'Milky Way class' for its pristine starry skies.  A 5 minute walk onto the moor here, away from the twinkling station lights achieves the same!

Bring some binoculars or borrow ours.

Our individually styled holiday cottages...

We are delighted to offer a choice of 2 cosy self catering holiday cottages for guests to enjoy all year round. Each sleeps 2 adults. There is room for a travel cot for a child under 2 and we are happy to accommodate one medium or two small, well behaved dogs in either cottage. We supply a 'dog pack' and all the walks your happy hound could ever wish for!

The holiday cottages are converted stone outbuildings that sit alongside the main house with their own gated entrance, garden, driveway and parking.

At Grove House we are very fortunate to still maintain our own water supply, sourced from a nearby spring up on the moor, filtered and delivered crystal clear to your taps. Showers are wonderful with the softness of the water producing rich lather with a minimum of soap.

We are in a remote, rural location but are fortunate to be able to include complimentary high speed broadband via a secure Wifi connection.  On most networks a 4G mobile phone signal is attainable at Grove House... as reliable (or not) as anywhere else in this country!

Outside there is a shared garden with direct views of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.  Each holiday cottage has an individual, private terrace with furniture and barbecue. The south-facing aspect ensures the terraces are a tranquil sun trap on which to enjoy a relaxed breakfast, peaceful afternoons and fabulous home cooking. Situated east of the pennines, we are afforded a drier climate than our latitude suggests.

For keen cyclists we can provide adjacent secure garaging for your bicycles as well as a hose and buckets to clean up after an active day.
